Ημέρα μνήμης των σκλαβωμένων μας πατρίδων.
Για ποιον χτυπάει σήμερα λυπητερά η καμπάνα;
Είναι για τις πανέμορφες εκείνες Πολιτείες,
που σαν καπνός εσκέπασε του Τούρκου η σκλαβιά
και γι αυτούς που πίστεψαν σε ψεύτικες ελπίδες
πως πάντοτε θα ζούσανε με τη λευτεριά.
Μη σταματάς τον χτύπο σου τον λυπηρό καμπάνα,
πρέπει να ακουστεί παντού αυτό που θες να πεις
πως σήμερα χτυπάς γι αυτά, μα και για τόσα άλλα,
που κάποτε εγίνανε μια μέρα σαν αυτή.
Χτύπα γι αυτούς που έπεσαν απ΄οχτρού το βόλι.
Χτύπα για το μαρτύριο αθώων κληρικών.
Χτύπα για τόσους Μάρτυρες, να προσκυνήσουν όλοι,
χτύπα για των πατρίδων μας τον άδικο χαμό.
