Με μιας ανοίγει ο ουρανός, τα σύγνεφα μεριάζουν,
οι κόσμοι εμείνανε βουβοί, παράλυτοι κοιτάζουν.
Μια φλόγα αστράφτει… ακούονται ψαλμοί και μελωδία…
Πετάει έν’ άστρο… σταματά εμπρός εις τη Μαρία…
«Χαίρε της λέει αειπάρθενε, ευλογημένη χαίρε!
Ο Κύριός μου είναι με σε. Χαίρε Μαρία, Χαίρε!»
Επέρασαν χρόνοι πολλοί…
μια μέρα σαν εκείνη
αστράφτει πάλι ο ουρανός…
στην έρμη της την κλίνη
λησμονημένη, ολόρφανη, χλωμή κι απελπισμένη,
μια κόρη πάντα τήκεται, στενάζει αλυσωμένη.
Τα σιδερά είναι ατάραγα, σκοτάδι ολόγυρά της.
Η καταφρόνια, η δυστυχιά σέπουν τα κόκαλά της.
Τρέμει με μιας η φυλακή και διάπλατη η θυρίδα
φέγγει κι αφήνει και περνά έν’ άστρο, μιαν αχτίδα.
Ο Άγγελος εστάθηκε, διπλώνει τα φτερά του…
«Ξύπνα, ταράζου, μη φοβού, χαίρε, Παρθένε, χαίρε.
Ο Κύριός μου είναι με σε, Ελλάς ανάστα, χαίρε».
Οι τοίχοι ευθύς σωριάζονται. Η μαύρ’ η πεθαμένη
νοιώθει τα πόδια φτερωτά. Στη μέση της δεμένη
χτυπάει η σπάθα φοβερή. Το κάθε πάτημά της
ανοίγει μνήμ’ αχόρταγο. Ρωτά για τα παιδιά της…
Κανείς δεν αποκρένεται…Βγαίνει πετά στα όρη…
Λιώνουν τα χιόνια όθε διαβεί, όθε περάσει η Κόρη.
«Ξυπνάτε εσείς που κοίτεστε, ξυπνάτε όσοι κοιμάστε,
το θάνατο όσοι εγεύτητε, τώρα ζωή χορτάστε».
οι χρόνοι φεύγουνε, πετούν και πάντα εκείνη η μέρα
είναι γραμμένο εκεί ψηλά να λάμπει στον αιθέρα
μ’ όλα τα κάλλη τ’ ουρανού. Στολίζεται όλη η φύση
με χίλια μύρια λούλουδα για να τη χαιρετήσει.
Γιορτάστε την, γιορτάστε την. Καθείς ας μεταλάβει
από τη χάρη του Θεού. Και σεις και σεις οι σκλάβοι,
όσοι τη δάφνη στη καρδιά να φέρετε φοβάστε,
αφορεσμένοι να ‘στε.
